Paola Piras and Caterina Cau: between tradition and new opportunities

The journey opens with Paola Piras, originally from Ittiri, and her daughter Caterina Cau, born and raised in Emilia-Romagna. Paola moved to the Emilian plain when she was young, bringing with her traditions and values that she passed on to her daughter. Despite growing up far from Sardinia, Caterina breathed in the island atmosphere from an early age, learning to intertwine her roots with everyday life in Emilia. For them, Sardinia is more than a memory: it is a thread that binds their experiences, giving shape to an identity that evolves without ever losing its essence. Growing up far from the island has allowed them to experience it with a new perspective, integrating it into their present and enriching those around them.

Daniela Scanu: a bridge between two worlds

In Bedonia, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, lives Daniela Scanu, a support teacher and music enthusiast. Daniela, daughter of Sardinians who emigrated from Nulvi and Orune, has maintained a strong connection with her origins, which she considers a living and conscious part of her identity. Sardinia, with its values and traditions, continues to be an emotional and cultural reference for her. Her passion for music intertwines with everyday life, becoming a tool to keep the bond with the Island alive. Daniela brings a piece of Sardinia into her work and her life, without ever letting distance weaken its strength. Her story is an example of how roots can transform into a bridge between cultures and not into a border.

Francesca Pirisi: an unbreakable bond with the island

Francesca Pirisi, born in Parma in 1996 to a Lombard mother and a father from Sarule, represents another nuance of this theme. Despite never having lived in Sardinia, Francesca has always felt a great affinity with her father’s land. Her childhood was permeated by Sardinian stories, traditions and flavours, which shaped her vision of the world. For Francesca, being Sardinian means living her identity in the present, without nostalgia, but with awareness. The traditions passed down by her father are not just memories, but tools that enrich her life path. All of this is reflected in her choices and in her ability to face challenges with resilience and continuity.

Laura Corrias: Culture as a Connection between Past and Present

Conto e carta

difficile da pignorare

The episode ends with Laura Corrias and her family. Originally from Dorgali, Laura has chosen to work in a cultural context that allows her to combine her passion for theater with the desire to keep her relationship with Sardinia alive. In her work at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Laura has found a way to make tradition a connection to the future, transmitting the cultural memory of the Island through innovation. Her experience is an example of how it is possible to adapt one’s Sardinian identity to new contexts, enriching them with the depth of one’s origins.

A bond that renews and grows

The stories told in this episode demonstrate how each protagonist has been able to maintain and renew the comparison with the Island, finding a way to intertwine tradition and modernity, roots and innovation. These stories remind us that being Sardinian does not only mean belonging to a land, but bringing with you a legacy of values, experiences and affections that continue to shape the present and the future.
